Privacy Policy
Gabay keeps data collection to a minimum. We have no accounts or forms, we never ask for your ID numbers or OTPs, and we respect your rights under the Data Privacy Act of 2012.
Our approach to privacy
Gabay is a publisher of free civic how-to guides. We are built to collect as little personal information as possible. We do not run user accounts, and we do not ask you to fill in forms with sensitive details in order to read our guides. This policy explains what limited data is involved when you visit and what your rights are.
What we do not collect
We will never ask you for, or collect, your government ID numbers, SSS number, TIN, PhilSys number, one-time PINs (OTPs), passwords, or card PINs. If you ever see a page claiming to be Gabay that asks for these, it is not us. There is no legitimate reason for a civic guide to hold your credentials.
Server logs
Like almost all websites, our hosting server automatically records standard technical information when a page is requested. This typically includes the IP address making the request, the browser type (user agent), the page visited, and the date and time. These logs are used for security, to diagnose problems, and to understand overall traffic. They are standard operational records, not a profile of you.
Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and privacy-respecting analytics to understand, in aggregate, how our guides are used — for example, which pages are popular — so we can improve them. We aim to keep analytics limited and non-invasive. You can control or block cookies through your browser settings; our guides remain readable without them.
Advertising cookies
Gabay is funded by advertising, and advertising partners may set their own cookies to display or measure ads. These are governed by the advertising providers’ own privacy policies. You can usually manage advertising cookies through your browser settings or through the ad-choices controls offered by those providers.
Children
Gabay is intended for a general adult audience dealing with government transactions. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us and we will address it.
Data retention
We keep technical logs only for as long as they are useful for security and operational purposes, after which they are discarded in the ordinary course. Because we do not run accounts, we do not maintain ongoing personal profiles of readers.
Links to official and third-party sites
Our guides link out to official government portals and, occasionally, other third parties. Once you follow a link, you are on that site and subject to its privacy practices, not ours. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any site you visit, especially before entering personal information on an official government portal.
Your rights under the Data Privacy Act of 2012
The Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173) gives data subjects in the Philippines rights over their personal information, including the rights to be informed, to access, to object, to rectify, to erasure or blocking, and to lodge a complaint. Because we collect so little, many of these rights have limited scope here, but we respect them fully. To exercise any right regarding data we may hold, email us at hello@getgabay.com.
The National Privacy Commission
If you have a concern we cannot resolve, you may contact the National Privacy Commission (NPC), the Philippine authority that oversees the Data Privacy Act. Details for reaching the NPC are available on its official website.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the limited data our systems handle. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but the less data a site holds, the less there is to protect — which is exactly why we keep collection minimal.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as our practices or the law evolve, and we will revise the date when we do. For any privacy question, email hello@getgabay.com or use our contact page. To understand our editorial standards, see How We Verify Our Guides.
