How to Get a Digital TIN ID from BIR

The BIR's Digital TIN ID is a free, downloadable ID you can generate through ORUS. Here is how to register, upload your photo, and download it — no RDO visit needed.

Step by step

1. Confirm you have a TINThe Digital TIN ID is issued to people who already have a Taxpayer Identification Number. If you do not have a TIN yet, get one first before attempting the ID. Never apply for a second TIN — one person is allowed only one TIN by law.

A free ID you can generate yourself

The Bureau of Internal Revenue’s Digital TIN ID is one of the easier government IDs to obtain because the entire process is online and free. It is generated through ORUS — the BIR Online Registration and Update System at orus.bir.gov.ph — and downloaded as a PDF, which means no queue at a Revenue District Office and no fee. That last point matters: because it costs nothing, any site or person charging to ‘process’ your TIN ID is not the official service.

You need a TIN first

The Digital TIN ID is an identification document tied to an existing Taxpayer Identification Number. It does not exist to create a brand-new TIN on the spot. If you already have a TIN, you are ready to proceed. If you do not, secure a TIN through the proper process before attempting the ID. One rule is absolute in the Philippine tax system: each person is entitled to only one TIN, and registering a second one is illegal, so never apply for another TIN just to get the ID.

BIR will never ask for your OTP, password, or PIN by text or call, and there is no legitimate fee to download a Digital TIN ID.

Registering and generating the ID

Start by creating an ORUS account with a valid email address and your taxpayer details, then activate it through the confirmation link BIR sends. Use an email you actually control and keep your login credentials to yourself. Using and protecting your ID

The Digital TIN ID is treated as valid government-issued identification and is generally accepted by agencies, banks, and employers, although some may still ask for a second ID alongside it. Because it carries your name and TIN, treat it like any sensitive document: do not post images of it on social media, and never send your TIN number or ID pictures to anyone who promises to ‘speed up’ the process.

Many Filipinos still remember the older physical TIN card issued at Revenue District Offices. The Digital TIN ID does not replace a validly issued physical card, but it serves the same identifying purpose and is far more convenient because you can regenerate and reprint it any time from your ORUS account. If your acceptance situation requires a hard copy — some transactions still prefer one — you can simply print the PDF. Keep in mind that a printout is only as secure as where you store it, so treat any copy that shows your TIN and photo with the same care you would give a driver’s licence or UMID. If an office insists on a laminated BIR-issued card specifically, that is a separate request handled through BIR, not through the free Digital TIN ID service.
